The slogan “my body, my choice” is commonly used in the abortion rights movement and has been extended to the prostitution rights movement. The idea behind it is that an individual has the right to do whatever they wish with their own body, as it is their own. Others do not have the right to object to what an individual does with their own body.
This concept may be true if the individual is alone and not part of any society. However, when living in or interacting with society, an individual’s actions become a part of that society and can have an impact on it. Therefore, they are accountable for their actions.
The argument that “my body, my choice” applies to prostitution is flawed, as individuals who sell their bodies are interacting with and impacting society. Despite this, they often attempt to reject any responsibility they have for their actions within society.
While “my body, my choice” may hold some validity in certain circumstances, it is not an acceptable justification for the legalization or decriminalization of prostitution.
