That is misinformation.
The assertion that “prostitution is the world’s oldest profession” is frequently used to justify its acceptance and legalization. However, this claim is baseless as prostitution is not even the oldest profession in the world. The oldest professions likely include hunting, gathering, farming, caregiving, cooking, fishing, healing, and building, among others.
According to Wikipedia, the phrase only became linked with prostitution around 1889, when it appeared in Rudyard Kipling’s story. This is not sufficient evidence to support the notion that prostitution is the oldest profession.
The argument that prostitution should be accepted or respected because it is the world’s oldest profession is flawed for two primary reasons. First, it implies that old or outdated practices should be acceptable, which is a weak logical argument. Second, it is based on misinformation as prostitution is not truly the world’s oldest profession.
